André GERRITS

Professor of International Studies and Global Politics at Leiden University

André W.M. Gerrits is Professor of International Studies and Global Politics at the Institute for History of Leiden University (Netherlands).
Previously, he held the chair in Russian History and Politics at Leiden University and the Jean Monnet Chair in European Studies at the University of Amsterdam. He was also a Senior Research Fellow at the Netherlands Institute of International Studies Clingendael.
Gerrits also holds various administrative and advisory positions within and outside of Leiden University, including at the Dutch Research Council (NWO), the Netherlands Helsinki Committee, Amnesty International, the EU-Russia Civil Society Forum, and the Foundation for Progressive European Studies.
Gerrits has been actively engaged with political and human rights organizations in the Netherlands and beyond. He initiated and directed a series of advocacy projects in Russia and Ukraine, including projects on human security, cultural heritage, conscription and civil rights, political party support and NGO development.
